Sounds awesome! So what's the deal with the PVC bottom? I was looking at 96x30x* tanks and they all had glass bottoms. DSA is one of the tank builders I was looking at too so I can't wait to see how yours comes out.
I dunno, i was talking to the store owner and he says they have been using it on larger tanks. Not sure if it was pvc but something like that. He wasn't sure if mine warrants it but it sounded like it may. It's stronger and lighter than the glass bottom and it's becoming pretty popular. I'll let you know what I find out this week when they get back to me.
haha, ya I do need to take a few pics of the finished house.
It's been crazy getting moved in and settled, and the weather here has been too disgusting lately for exterior shots.
Soon! Hopefully.
HATE YOU!!!!! Just playing. We are thinking of moving into the Mac Daddy of our community. I mean our house is pretty huge now but I want to be able to do like you have going on with a dedicated fish room.
I would hope going from 3200sq ft. to 4300sq ft would give me some way but I realized it is not the size of he house it is the floor plan. If our current 3 car was no so separated from the house I would go for it but it is more pushed forward boooo.
I am excited to see the new set-up. You should Photoshop a fake tank in for now so we can see it in place lol.
I am doing graphic work for a new customer that does all acrylic work and is developing a new line of aquarium reef products so I was thinking of keeping a credit line so that if I one day move I could have a 350-400Gal Acrylic made to order at cost. I have to do everything from the stickers that go on the products to the brochures and logos for certain products and the website so I am sure the tank will be far less than the costs they will have to pay me.
Sorry about flapping about the work, just throwing that in their to puff up my post about how happy I am for you. I will 110% be watching and seeing what you do I can learn from.
Hey I went back to read you sump ideas and if you want a great design and an easy way to control the flow in your fuge area see this here design I made.
I now eliminated the ball valve that controls the flow from the tank into the fuge(It got dirty in the fuge quick with no socks) and just have the water coming out of my Carbon Reactor dumping in the fuge but that is low flow because I have the MaxiJet1200. It is so slow I have that glass looking waterfall with no bubbles in the return area.
You can also still use an external return pump if you want and I have a Reef Octopus Extreme 250 and an eShopps Extra Large dual Square Sock set up and it all fits. NOTE: Anyone using or planning to use these eShopps sock place a short piece of PVC under the plate as this will eliminate splashing. As the water exits into the sock it can somehow splash on the acrylic and roll to the edge and drip in the back.
I will post a real photo in a sec so you can see it.
No I do not have the fire hazzard of wiring anymore. Actually they are all not as bad as they look there in the photo. I now have a 20Gal Tall Auto Topoff tank. I built that bubble Trap externally so I would not have to worry about the wall leaking.
The best thing is that the socks slide out and new ones slide in quickly. I can slow the fuge even more because as you probably know the BRS Deluxe has the mini ball valves.
I wish I had more height under my stand but you will have a ton being in a room. I have also seen people use mesh covers for large open sumps because who knows what's in the air especially near the garage.
I saw someone said to get a wall unit to keep the tank water cool. I agree 110% for 2 reasons. One you won't be doing maintenance in a sweltering room/garage and 2 it's good enough for people to have coral tanks in outdoor rooms that I know with no chiller needed with large MH bulbs on top of it.
I understand you have your plans for it all but I personally feel the advantages are far greater with a closed AC room. Pumps run cooler and working in there which is where you will be 100% of the time will be much nicer. You don't need a palace for a work area. A few walls and even a slide in the wall door is plenty of access room.
It would be great just to pipe in a couple of water and drain lines and hook up the RO unit and so on. Go all in or go home lol.
Excited to see what you decided but just study my sump because it is a smart design for flow control. Plus the fuge will never be at the mercy of your return pump.
Ya, my setup is just going to be completely different than yours since I'm not doing a traditional sump and i'm using the Bean Animal overflow setup, but I may still steal some plumbing ideas that I can work into mine. :)
Yeah I saw that overflo design and it seems pretty nice. My tank just has the traditional 3 level intake with the dual overflows.
Thankfully if I shut of my skimmer the tank is almost completely silent. I sometimes slap an elbow on my skimmer and honestly it is so quiet I am shocked it is running. My old HyDrive pump that broke was so quiet you could not hear it with your head over the return section.
I think I am just lucky it is so quiet and those socks are only somewhat noisy when they are getting clogged and the water level nears the top.
I will however look into the kind you are using if I ever build a new tank. I have Starphire glass and it is so nice especially the edges looks nicer. If you see my tank build thread I took pix during the leak check I ran for a few days and the tank is totally blue in color and the edges as well.
I would also like to have a frag growing tank. Let them grow for the tank and keep them safe from annoying CUC knocking over frags I don't want to glue in. I like to find a spot they like first before I will glue.
Anyway cool thread and one day I will have another tank and hopefully my own a/c fish room. I want my tank in the wall so I can get anywhere in the tank without stuff in the way. I will also try to have my tank roughly 36" back to front so I can have a wider trench for my corals similar to my current tank.
