For Christmas my family got me 30 lbs of dry rock from Tampa Bay and it is fabulous. Lots of nooks and crannies and stacks like a dream. I'm afraid of the aquacultured stuff because of the hitch-hikers. You're doing it right, though and it's FUN to see what you get! Happy Hunting!

Well, I had a small set back today.
I'm noticing that due to the stand being closed off on all 4 sides (3 sides are doors), there is excess moisture inside the stand. Not good for the wood stand and not good for electrical.
I pulled out the sump this morning and everything else that was on the floor, ripped up the cork i layed down which was starting to get some black mold spots on it, and rolled out a fresh coat of white primer.
Now i just need to hook everything back up.

So what do you think i should do to help with moisture? Exhaust fans on the back wall? Silica Desiccant?

How about cutting some vents into the back wall? Like some horizontal or vertical slots?

I think I would get the smallest bathroom fan or something like that. You could vent it out of one of the side. Put it on a timer to run every few hour and you are set. I am sure you could get or find a nice wooden cover to match the stand. If you are having troubles now I an sure it will get worse in the hudidity of summer.

Or even a small PC fan with a 12v transformer. Something just to circulate the air.

Cut out a vent in a side or two, install a nice wood slot vent. Attach a small fan to this and there you go. My 850 is a walk around so I had the same issue with it and this is how I fixed it, it works well.

The thought of having to cut into this stand is killing me. lol
Right now i just have all the doors open. :p

Here you go. I picked them up at home depot, it may have been lowes... but you can stain them to match your stand. You could probably cut the vent in half and make it work that way as well because your stand is smaller.

So you have fans on the inside blowing out?

I don't have them hooked up right now, but I had one set up to suck the air in and the other blowing air out.

Dennis you could always just drill a bunch of small holes similar to a speaker grill and use the PC fan if you didn't want to cut into it.

Ooh I kinda like the speaker grill optionbetter. Seems like acleaner look.

You will have problems with the speaker grill deal. The guy who build my canopy used 4" fans blowing out the side. All the humidity coming out of the side cause drip marks down the side, and that was a 4" hole. I would think the smaller holes would trap moister right into the wood holes.
