Brittany's teeny tiny reef!

Not too sure honestly. Maybe a pistol shrimp but I don't wanna be hearing POP POP POP all night lol. Got any shrimp suggestions? Also do i have to add the goby and the shrimp at the same time?

My tank is in my room where I spend a lot of time, and I only hear my pistol shrimp pop about twice a week.

Just wanted to post a couple pics. First is some algae starting to grow. I love the look of that rock also. Must be a dead sponge or something that made all the little holes. I added to turbo snails today so the algae doesn't get out of hand. They are just chillin for now. Getting used to the new tank I guess.

And this one is a shot looking up. I thought it was kinda cool. It looks bigger than a 10g from that angle.

Matty's right it does look huge. How did you get the rocks to hold some kind of glue, zip ties? pro reef magic?

I used jb waterweld epoxy putty, a small amount of gel super glue and we put soo ties around the rocks to hold them together until the epoxy hardened. Then took the zip ties off after a couple days and viola!

Yes I am going to have way too much fun with this lol. I think ill need to open an account for donations so I can fund my hobby Haha

I cant do monetary donations. But I can donate corals! And fish lol

I tested the water again today. Here's the readout.

Ammonia-zero
Nitrite-.25
Nitrate- 10-20

The nitrites are on their way back down to zero and then it will be small water change time! Yay! I'm getting very anxious about my plate coral. It looks worse each day and the clowns just hover around waiting for it to extend its tenticles. After the trites get to zero and I do a water change ill move it to this tank along with a hammer that I think would look fabulous in there. The hammer will have a more open space to grow now that it has six heads! And the frogspawn in the 29g won't be crowded by the hammer anymore. In a couple more weeks I'm going to prlly put the green monti frag that Valasaraptor gave me in this tank. I have the perfect spot for it. I do have one question tho... My water is kinda cloudy, why is that? Is it bc I don't have a skimmer? Should I invest in one? If I do I'm just gonna get the same thing as the 29g. The Rio bank skimmer. It does a pretty good job and its afforable. Will that help with the cloudiness?

Probably just a bacterial bloom. I had a TON of those the first three months with my 50 gallon.

Small update. I just ordered a skimmer, 2 koralia nano 240's, and a fragging kit that comes with a scapel, soft tissue scissors, bone cutters and forcepts. Hopefully they are here next week.

Now onto the tank itself. I tested the water AGAIN lol and I got 0-.25 nitrites and 10-20 nitrates.

The tank is verry cloudy and there is green everywhere! I have two turbo snails in there munching away. The reason for the tank was for my plate coral. It was harassed by my clowns and it looks like shit now. I figured the nitrites will be gone in a couple days and the clowns just won't leave the plate alone. It looks worse and worse each day so I put it in the new tank. I think it already too far gone anyways and I'm pissed, I loved that coral and a friend bought it for me. I'll leave it in there for a few weeks to see if it bounces back but I doubt it will. Here's a couple pics.

i like how that new test kit has all the values and colors on one chart. did you get that test kit recently? i hadn't seen that before and would make things easier..

I got mine almost a year ago. I'm prlly due for a new one actually. But this one seems to be giving accurate results still. It's the API saltwater testing kit.

you can check the stock number on the box and it has the date coded in there. they are usually good for three or four years according to the manufacturer last i checked.

try spot feeding it and see if that helps. i lost 2 fungia but i never spot fed and the mouths had died off so it was a waiting game. if it still has a mouth, it still has a chance. youll be surprised how fast it can regrow over that skeleton.

How do i know if it has a mouth? I see a big open hole in the top. I can kinda see inside it. The plate coral has no reaction at all to anything. I'll put some food on it and see what happens tho.

The open hole in the top will have a purple/pink flesh. thats its mouth, if you only see the skeleton in the center, it may be a goner. They can regrow mouths of course but it takes a while to do so as theyre slow growers and if its in bad shape, it may die faster than it grows. Mine tried to make a comeback but inevitably it was lost.

....mine is a goner then...I only see the skeleton and the white is spreading...this sucks. I set this tank up for this plate coral to survive. Cycle took too Dang long...
