Brittany's teeny tiny reef!

Yes I think my finger would have fallen off if I used a ruler lol just kidding. I had just got home from work so I rlly didn't care. I don't have any problems but I just want to make sure my tank is stable and not going to stress my corals and fish out. The temp went from 78 at 1:00am to 74 at 10:00am. I'm going to keep on tracking it to see if that happens consistently. Is okay for it to fluctuate as long as its a consistent fluctuation? Or is that too much of a fluctuation? It's slowly increasing and decreasing as the day goes on. I had to add 6 cups of water today! The powerfilter makes the water evaporate soo fast and nitrates were at zero.

I don't think two degrees would harm anything, but I also know that digital heaters are accurate (mostly) to the 0.1 degree for a reason. Mine fluctuates about 1-1.5 degrees during the day, and I have no problems.

Im not sure but if its a gradual temp change like 4 degrees over 9 hrs. I cant really see it doing too much damage as if it were like instant. 74 does seem pretty low though. Is there a cover over it?

Hey you have the Odyssea 4-bulb T5HO, right?

Do you like it?
Where did yoy buy it?
How much? (Aquatraders has it for $49.90)
What bulbs do you use? The one I saw had 12,000K and Actinics, along with 4 lunar LEDs.

you really dont want the temp to chance more than a degree or two over the whole day. In the ocean the water temp changes a few degrees over the course of few months.

Plus fish in the ocean have the option to change depths for temp preference. Mine still changes alot during the day. Ive seen it as low as 74 and as high as 83, though not in the same day. So far no negative effects (knock on wood) Im really dreading it in the summer. Im def. Going to need a clip on fan or something. I think it may be my heater though.
I agree with Hannah 100%.

No I don't have a top on it bc I don't want it to get too hot. I had a heater in there but it was making the tank too hot so I took it out. I don't think it was working right. So I guess I'm getting a new heater.

Kbuser, I got the light from aquatraders. It's okay. Not wonderful but for the price its good. I've been looking for better bulbs everywhere and cant find any. The smallest size I find is 24 inch.

Does yours have the LEDs and if so, is there two powercords or a three way switch?

I think either DrsFosterSmith or AquaCave had bulbs. Ill look.

There is three different cords. And yes there are leds. I wish there were more than four tho bc it doesn't light up the corals too much with just the moonlights on. I guess I'm just used to my marineland leds.
