Brittany's teeny tiny reef!

Well this morning when the lights came on it was a bit more clear. Enough for me to notice. And it doesn't look so dingy green. I'm gonna let it sit like that and do the regular weekly water changes and see if it clears up from here. Next week ill try to use tap water and see if it clouds worse or better. If worse then ill be forced to use RODI eater. If better then, ill use tap. Oliver (spotted mandarin) seems to be doing great. I turned off all pumps for about 30 mins so he could easily eat the frozen food and he picked at it to his leisure. Seems like if it takes him too mug energy to get it rhen he won't eat it. But if it just sits in the sand near him he will mosy on over and eat it lol. The red banded goby is still hiding. He can out the night I got him to eat, that's Sunday and he hasn't come out since. I'm hoping he is just getting used to the new tank still. Does anybody know of a cuc member that eats up leftover food but doesn't steal it away from the mandarin too quickly. I don't want uneaten food to rot and cause water quality issues. I was thinking of putting my scarlet hermit in this tank bc he doesn't run right over and eat all the food up.

That sounds like a good idea. I was wondering what to put in mine for CU as well. Glad it seems to be clearing up. Good luck :x:

In my experience (the little that ive had) my scarlett hermitt is slow too, same with nass snails. I'd suggest just staying away from shrimp. My cleaner and peppermint shrimp go nuts as soon as i feed the tank, like they havent eaten in weeks. Too many times ive had to scare away my peppermint shrimp so my mandarin could eat. Thats great that hes eating though. :)

I have a couple scarlets in my reef they are slow and wobble. My favorite though, is my zebra leg, but it's probably a bit too fast for your purpose. It killed a snail and stole it's shell and it's been representin' ever sense. He is a homewrecker =(

Thanks for the input guys. I am so frustrated right now. I bought a timer/power strip for the lights, powerhead and filter. Yesterday the timer decided to stop working. And I didn't have the recipt anymore. So I bought another one thinking its a fluke. Well this one has the same damn problem! so I called up and asked if I could return then both and the lady said yes. But I have to do it tonight bc I have to work the rest of the week and don't need an extra algae bloom on top of the cloudy water. Ugh this tank is giving me hell! All I want is a timer that works and clear water! Sorry but I just needed to vent. This is truley depressing...along with normal daily stress.

Don't be stressed out sometimes as much as we love our tanks they are a PITA. Are you using a timer/power strip combo or a standalone timer? BTW if you're interested, I was at ABC the day before yesterday and they had a ReefKeeper Lite for $120. It's a steal!

I have found that the standalone timers work a lot better than the powerstrip built in things. Use one that's rated for outdoor use. I've had mine for a while and love it.

Dont stress Brittany, just a minor stepping stone towards a great little tank. Some day youll look back at your frustration and laugh about it. :)

Thanks guys. I needed some reassurance.

Amba, they were timers and powerstrip combo. They look all nice and spiffy. Well they're not. They are junk! Lol

Washburn, I hope that time comes soon bc I'm tired of problems

I was able to return both timer powerstrip combos. So I ran to home depot and they had nothing. Finally I went to Walmart knowing they at least have timers. I grabbed two separate timers. I also got this thing that is kinda like a powerstrip but not really. It plugs into the wall and instead of having two outlets now you will have six. Getting all those was cheaper than the one powerstrip timer combo anyways. I shoulda done that from the start. Now my only problems are.....cloudy tank and hiding goby. Hopefully the goby will come out if he gets hungry enough. I really love the mandarin. He isn't shy at all and I can see he is enjoying the pods. I'm going to feed him frozen again tonight to remind him that frozen is his primary food not pods Haha

Same here! So where did you get your mandarin? Im thinking either that or a pygmy angel in mine, but I want one that eats frozen.

Kyle I got the mandarin from petland.

Amba, all I could frag is some zoas and palys for ya. I have green star polyps also that I could frag. But that sounds like a good idea to me!

It's cool, it would just be fun to hang out with fellow reefers anyhoo! Maybe when I get some more spending money we could make a trip to the new ABC reefs if you haven't been there already.

Ooooooooo do it On a Sunday or Monday!!!!!!!! I'm usually in cuse,Cicero, central square area!!!! And hanging out with fellow reefers is awesome!!! What animals shall we bring hahahah.........Brittany "trigger" well thts what I called him...I'd make a gun with my fingers and go Bang and he'd disappear...it took him almost a week to het comfy and be out all the time even when I had my hand in there

Trigger it is then. Maybe if I say his name he will come it Hahaha. I can see him, he doesnt know it but I can lol I just can't see him very well. I want to be sure he is eating enough. We should do it on a Monday. I have mondays off too so we wouldn't have to rush lol.
