Jus make sure it's going to be level alex. Be a disaster if it isn't with all that weight. Other than that those shims should be ine but I can't say for sure. Both my tanks are shimmed on carpet. My mantis tank more so and they are fine.
 
Ok, thanks Dana. Haha, right now it's become the least of my concerns.

Alright...potential disaster. First off, dumb mistake on my part - I forgot to cut the holes for the return/drain in the plywood the tank is resting on! Alright, so I can get in the tank and drill it out, PITA, but no big deal. The thing is....it LOOKS like the return hole is lined up directly with the steel center brace of the stand!!! If that's the case, I'm SCREWED! I had to pay piano movers to get the tank from where it was dropped off to inside the house!! OMFG...:grumble:
 
Without hiring more movers, can you do it gradually? Like, cut the new foam in half. Then slide the tank so it's diagonal, cut half of the current foam off, and slide half of the new foam on, and repeat on the second side. You'll still need help, but without taking the tank off, I don't see how else you can do it.

Ugh, but I'm now more concerned about this new issue...if I have to send the stand back it's going to be a huge, huge amount of effort.
 
I wonder if the stand's center brace can be cut and re-welded on site?

Awesome looking tank though and nice lights.
So is there no foam underneath right now?
 
I was wondering the same thing. The fabricator may be able to come out to your place and cut/reweld the stand. My first idea that you could talk to the fabricator about is to cut the center brace at the mid point and weld on a pre-fabricated "Y" attachment that will leave enough room for your supply and return. If they have the design still at their facility it shouldn't be a problem for them to make the "Y" attachment at their shop and then send someone out to do a field modification. Although I am sure you will pay a premium for this, but when you add in your costs to get it to the shop you might come out even.

you can always call up a local welder or metal smith. I know there are about 4 or 5 with in distance. They all have portable mig and tig welders and could easily cut off the brace and put in a y brace. Shouldn't cost much more than parts and labor for maybe 30mins of work... as for the foam, to get it out can you just put some shims in underthe tank on one side and use a soft mallet and pound them in and get a little clearence, cut the foam where the shims are not, remove, place shims in the new open space, remove old shims and remove foam underneath, remove new shims, place tank back down, repeat on all sides untill no foam, or replaced with new foam?
 
As a rough estimate you could probably say $50.00- $75.00 per hour for labor (depending on how the charge their time maybe an hour), $25.00 for a trip charge, $20.00 for materials, $25.00 for equipment (welder rental, weld rods, grinders, etc.). So it might cost you $120.00 to $145.00 to get it fixed at your place. I'm just kinda throwing out numbers to give you an idea of what it might cost based on some work I have priced before.
 
Yeah, Dennis, no foam right now - kicking myself for not putting it in, even thought I had planned it. I also have to drill the holes in the plywood where the plumbing will go through. I think I can just push the tank away from the wall (the feet are padded) and drill the hole from the top-down, inside the hole in the glass. Would that be safe?

Thanks for the input guys - I spoke to the company and they are saying they're going to get it fixed and will talk to me first thing tomorrow morning. I'm guessing they probably have a similar plan as you guys spoke, re: welding. However much it costs, I'm not paying for it! They screwed up! Do you think they'll need to remove the tank from the stand to do that welding?

Kully, great idea with the shims! I can give that a try - for now I'm waiting to see if they'll need to remove the tank.

Ugh, this whole project is stressing me out too much!
 
That is great that they are going to fix it! I would definately have then remove the tank while they are doing their repairs. With the cutting and welding you don't want them to slip up and crack the glass or worse. Afterward you can drill your holes in the plywood and get them to help you place it back on the stand
 
I know, I can't wait to be able to enjoy it! Right now I'm wishing I realized some of these issues before the tank was on the stand, because now it seriously complicates things. My old tank wasn't drilled, so no sump, so I didn't know what I didn't know!

then the question is...how the HELL am I going to get it off? I had to get a piano moving service to bring it inside, going to need to get like 6 friends over (which has proven to be near impossible with how far they all live) to help!! :frustrat::frustrat:

You are starting to sound like me...if it was raining cats outside i'd get hit in the head with a dog.

So i have been wracking my brain trying to come up with a solution without moving the tank. They could probably use a grinder with a metal cutting disc to cut the center brace and the stand would hold but then they have to prep all 4 edges of the brace and the "Y" to accept the weld so they would need access to the top of the brace. Could they maybe bring a temporary support structure the same height of the stand that you could slide the tank over on while the work?
 
Ha, I'm actually a little torn about moving the tank - I don't want to go through the work of taking it off, but it'd solve the problem of drilling the plywood and getting the foam in.

No idea what they're planning, as soon as they call me tomorrow I'll let you guys know. The electrician is coming tomorrow to do some wiring, so that'll keep my mind off of it a bit.
 
So it looks like they're going to agree to replace the stand....I guess I can get some of the plumbing done while I wait. Today I got the wireless bridge hooked up between my GHL Proflilux computer and my network, and set up port-forwarding so now I can log into my tank from afar!
