My 33 Gallon Build

I hae a few curly-q aiptasia-like anemones that are pretty slow growing in my tank. There's one I can't catch that occasionally spawns new ones. To kill them, I've just been covering their holes with 2-part putty. A lot easier than trying to inject them with stuff IMO.

Seabee I have sponges in my drain holes and it muffles the sound a lot. We really don't notice any sound at all unless your right next to the drain listening to it. As for water it depends on the size of the tank. I have two Quiet One 14000 return pumps which keep a solid sheet of water flowing over the sides. One will not do the trick for my tank. I tried a 14000 and a 6000 size pumps and it was also enough. I like having the two 14000 since I have no powerheads.

When are we going to see an updated pic of your tank David ??????

I know I know.... but I did it anyways.

Today I returned all of the eco rock and started over.

For me it came down to I liked the look better....plus I thought about it and the Walt Smith rock is soo porous that the surface area is much much greater than the eco. Great surface area....more bacteria.

So...after some work..I am back where I started a week and a bit ago. A pain....heck ya....but I do think in the long run I will like the layout and look much better.

I am going to get one more small piece to hide the powerhead of the skimmer and that's it. Anyone think this is too much rock? My wife intially thought it was...and I can tell you put it together was a lot harder than you think (tanks only 36Lx12Dx18H)

The amount of stuff on this rock is crazy.... I know what I'll be doing for the next few weeks.

I admit...I am getting excited.

Everything is kind of working out...a lot of the guys I want in my cleaning crew don't come in for 2 weeks...so the timing is great.:^::^:

Tank looked good before, tank looks better now. I don't think it's too much rock, I think you're doing a great job. If you fretted over the rock that much, I can't wait until your fish threads....:bounce:

AYYY
I think you could fit a few pounds of rock in there.:D

NAW,Thats not to much rock.As long as you like it,thats all that matters.

PS
How about letting one of us mods move this thread to the showcase forum? That way it dont burried.

Sure... sounds good :)

As for fish...as crazy as this sounds I think I have it figured out.

I want two clowns and a fire dartfish and that's it.

The only thing that I worry might make it more complicated is getting fish for specific tasks...one to eat tube worms, one for hair algae etc etc... I dont want them but I have a feeling you might get in a position where you just have to add one for a bit to clear things up etc etc.

Those cleaning chores are where the CUC comes in.:D
There are a lot of inverts that will be good for your tank, but dont count toward the bio-load.Urchins,snails,starfish,will all play a part in keeping the tank clean.

A few new developments...

Well, the store I got the rock from gave me a peppermint shrimp to get rid of the aiptasia... (felt bad for the rock having aiptasia)

All I can say is :^: wow.

That thing is an aiptasia eating machine. I had 8 that I knew of.... now I cannot find a single aiptasia...after only 2 days.

Another development...I think my skimmer is going to start working finally...the bubbles in the chambers have drastically increased. Nothing has went up the tube yet...but I think it will soon.

I plan to do some testing later on today and see how things are coming along. I am hoping to add the full cleanup crew at the end of the week.

Then wait a another week and add a few corals.

But I guess the thing I need to figure out now is what I want to get for a clean up crew.

I had initally thought I would get the following...but then all the anti-crab people started scaring me off crabs.

Nassarius snails 10
Cerith 10
Astraea snails 5

5 Blue Hermits
3 Red Hermits,
2 Scarlet Hermits
1 or 2 cleaner shrimp (as mentioned I have one peppermint shrimp now)

Opinions?

I've got astrea snails..Skip'em when they fall over onto their shells they can't right themselves, as a new reefer I'm constantly sticking my arms in the tank and making adjustments, then I have to fix all the damn snails.

I would just add some more nassarius to make up for them.

Looking really nice in there, KD! You've probably already done this a dozen times already, but check the security of your rocks one more time to make sure thwy are stable! I like the new look!

Astrea snails and turbo snails are different. Astreas are smaller snails, so they don't have a tendency to knock things over in the tank, but they do have that "I've fallen and I can't get up" thing. Turbo snails get bigger. I don't have any, so I haven't researched them at all. They seem to be fairly popular. I'm sure someone else will answer shortly.
