My 33 Gallon Build

okay since the other photo was terrible I tried to get a better pic of the other one... I got a great pic today showing both.

I know the one on top is aipstasia...what about the other one?

I have that rock in quarantine now... until I find the aiptasia-x stuff... (no one locally seems to have it.

But now I am looking at the other rocks and I have concerns about them too...:frustrat::frustrat::frustrat:

This makes me soo annoyed. Why sell rock that is infested?

1) looks like tube worms. if the tubes are occupied, you'll have little feather dusters pop outta the tops. they are harmless filter feeders

2) is another aiptasisa KILL IT! :)

3 and 4) look like the arms of a brittle star. Nice hitch hiker detritus eaters. the rest of his body is protected inside the rock. he is good for your tank.

many of these things are not visible on the rocks until they have been sitting still for a while in a tank. Many stores move their rock around quite a bit which will keep all the critters in their hiding spots until they feel safe enough to come out.

Yep, only the aiptasia are bad. The other stuff (tube worms and starfish) are safe and good to have.

You're never going to find live rock that has zero pests or bad stuff on it. That's what makes it "LIVE". You've got to take the good with the bad. We've all had to deal with aiptasia before. It's par for the course in this hobby.

Those are bristle worms. They are among the best cleaners in your tank. Be glad you have them, but beware, don't touch them bare-handed. The bristles are stingers and they hurt if they get you.

I've also got a few aiptasia on some new rock I purchased. I got the rock from a reefer, he gave me a bottle of aiptasia X. Once you get the Aiptasia X you won't mind killing them, it's actually kinda fun.. Comes with a syringe, you get to execute them by lethal injection.

have you looked for Joe's Juice? I've heard it works well too. I've no experience with it. Maybe you can find that in the Great White North.

Well it appears I might have a deal thrown my way... :bounce:

Now I am trying to decide if I should take it...

It is for this canopy.
TEK LIGHT T-5, 36" Light Fixture 6 x 39W lamps by Sunlight Supply* - AquaCave

Is this too bright for a 33 gallon? It is 36"Lx 12"W x18" deep

If yes, I could just run it with 4 or even 2 bulbs correct?

Would this be noticeably better than a 2 96W Powercompact fixture? (192W with 2 LED moonlights)

I plan to focus mainly on soft corals and LPS for now... but eventually want to get into some SPS too...

Opinions?

There is rarely a case where a light is too bright in this hobby. Get the TEK and use all 6 bulbs! The T5's will be much better than PC's and you'll need that much light if you want to keep SPS, Clams, or Nems down the road.

T5s are far superior to PCs in almost every case. This is one of those cases. Go with the T5s. It's nearly impossible to get too much light, and if you want to keep SPS down the road, you will need more light than PCs can give.
is there an echo in here?
