My 33 Gallon Build

I agree that your salinity is fine where it's at. I personally don't like crabs either. They have killed too many snails and disturbed too many corals in my tank for me to keep them around. As for your CUC, I would highly recommend that you avoid adding anything until your cycle is done. Since you are still reading ammonia in your test, your tank is not done cycling. Soon, you should start to see nitrites rise, and then nitrates. once they are all back to 0, you can go ahead stocking your CUC.

Tucan, does your Zero sound like storm drains? The one we set up is loud and not all the edges are flowing, and yes it's level. I suggested some gravel in the drain area and a larger return pump for more over the edge-ness. What you think?

Seabee I have sponges in my drain holes and it muffles the sound a lot. We really don't notice any sound at all unless your right next to the drain listening to it. As for water it depends on the size of the tank. I have two Quiet One 14000 return pumps which keep a solid sheet of water flowing over the sides. One will not do the trick for my tank. I tried a 14000 and a 6000 size pumps and it was also enough. I like having the two 14000 since I have no powerheads.

I've a bunch of people tell me to not add in ANY crabs as they can basically go after other life in the reef tank.

Opinions?

Hermit Crabs do two things: stir sand and kill, and they are all out of bubblegum. Nah hermit crabs are pretty useful, but they are just annoying.

Tank looks like it is coming along nicely! I tend to side with the "crabs are evil society" people, but there are some useful crabs. I have had very little problems with emerald crabs, sally lightfoots, and anemone crabs. The real pests are the large hermits. I think there is something about their natural need to kill snails in order to get their houses that causes them to be so evil.

Well today I added another 10lbs of rock.

This is real live rock not the eco stuff. I love the new layout. Way more sturdy and I think looks better too.

It is still a little cloudy but looks better even now.

Now for the bad news... I was sitting watching the new tank watching all the critters...and what do I see.. an aiptasia on one of the new rocks. :frustrat::frustrat:

Sooooo now what do I do. wait and just get a peppermint shrimp? Try and inject him with vinegar? How do they multipy?

Hey now the hermits just need a place to live. Give them plenty of empty shells and they will house hunt without killing the resident. I love hermits. Very reef compatible and wont hurt anything if they have a home.

inject him with some Kalk or you can get some peppermint shrimp. I had an outbreak of these and the peppermint shrimp really wasted them. They multipy very fast. They multipy by spores I think also by splitting.

Okay, this is annoying me... so I pulled out the real camera.

Is this an Aiptasia?

Here is another shot of the rock formation now with the protein skimmer in.
