wontonflip's 125g build

Videos of the sump in action In the second video we added extra pvc to silence the gushing water from the intake into the main sump. HUGE difference. Not that it matters because when I close the door to the sump room, I don't hear it anyway.

It looks great. I think the PVC was a great idea. it will not only be more quiet, but less messy with salt creep and micro bubbles too. You may even add another short piece to the output in the new 20g glass tank too, for the same reason.

Thanks...I would've gone w/ no-crimp tubes so I wouldn't have any sharp bends, but the layout of the tank stand wouldn't accomodate the wide curves it would have needed. So we used the pvc w/ double 45 bends for the return. The intake just uses 90 degree and some double 45's. Had my sump been under the tank, I would've stuck w/ the tubing.

You got some pretty flow going throu that sump Wonton.

Yeah, I'm happy with the flow :) I was always worried about having too much headloss, but it worked out. I'm glad I took my time finding the right configuration. I'm very happy with the setup.

The next on the diy agenda (aside from making more garf rocks) is lighting. Can't wait!

Lol, I just meant the extra piece you added to the sump...

Thanks...it's an obsession, as I'm sure you know ;) It helps that my husband has become obsessed with it, too. Not so much the tank itself, but building stuff for the tank. I wasn't going for a 125g, but when he got into my 45g, he said "We have to get a bigger tank!" lol

With the loss of my goby in the 45, I'm pressing on!! I'm installing the above-tank fuge for the 125. It will be in the sump room on a shelf, and there's a hole in the wall for the pvc to poke through. It's not big, and it will just probably be 1 gallon, but it's mainly for pod production more than anything. I may eventually put in another fuge in the sump's intake area, which is on the ground, for the purpose of keeping my nitrates down. I have leftover miracle mud that i will use, and I'll just rip off a hunk off the chaeto in my 45g's fuge.

The area of the 125 where the pvc pokes into the water will eventuallly house the majority of my live rock anyway, so it will lessen the chance of pods being sucked into the overflow. Hope it works!!

I've got saltwater mixing in a bucket right now, then I'll hook it up for a trial run. :^:

Top view of the sump-turned-fuge. Not big, but it will do.

The compartment with the sloped top is not going to be used for anything.

You'll see we sealed off the larger compartment. It's wet from testing. No leaks :)

This is where it will be.

Looks really good wonton, with the exception of the electric cord running through the wall. That's not to code and could possibly start a fire.

Depends on WHICH set of codes your goin by David

Looks good Wonton, and should do the trick.:D

Thanks! That's what I thought, too, but it's an outdoor power cord that's got the super thick covering, so it should be ok to get wet. We've moved all the outlet plugs where they are all plugged in are well away from the tank's sump. Before I put up the fuge, I took time yesterday rerouting some cables (mostly for the alarm and the ethernet stuff) above the ceiling. Making sure they're away from the fuge (previously, they were all over the shelf of the fuge). Hung up the wires higher up in the rafters. I'm always paranoid about that stuff :) We even relocated a power outlet that was too close to the sump.

Good lookin' out, though!!

Biff -- he would never comment on your awesome setup ;)
