We Did It!! New Sump!

If you have the riser all the way down (make sure and push it hard), then pull it off and see what happens. That has to drop the water level inside the skimmer.
How deep is the water the skimmer is sitting in in that pic? Is it sitting right on sand?

Yes, it's sitting on the sand. It's sitting in about 8 inches or so of water.

I really have no room to play...it's a tall skimmer. I have to pull the entire tank out to pull the cup out.

I wonder...do I have to have the entire skimmer in the tank or can I put the skimmer on the side and have the pump itself in the water?

you can have the skimmer outside with some (again - not sure with the Octopus) but, of course, if it does go nuts it will them pour water out all over your floor! Wherever you have it though, the level of the water above the pump might need to be less than it is....

As you are unable to raise the height of the skimmer, try taking some water out of the system (keep it in a bucket for now) to lower the level in your sump - see if that makes a difference.

Once we identify the water level as the issue (or not) then we can decide the best way for you to do this with your setup..

Cool, thanks for all your help. I really appreciate it. I drove home at lunch to check on it and the bubbles are perfect right now with my knot in it. I don't want to do any damage by keeping the knot in there that so I want to get this figured out.

I'm going to call Joe at Marine Solutions tonight or maybe just drive down there...I live about 10 minutes from him.

Sounds like you may have had some funk in your water that made the skimmer go crazy and it finally settled down. Good to hear!

8" is perfect depth. I would try to get it off the sand tho. Maybe move the sand and set the skimmer on some eggcrate.

If you have to pull the whole tank (sump) out from under the tank when you empty the cup, you're in for a lot of work. That cup will fill in about a week, plus when you empty the cup you should also clean the neck.

You must run that skimmer inside the sump...unless you drill it and make it a recirculating skimmer. Tricky work and you can destroy the skimmer.

i overfed my tank the other day and skimmer has been going nuts for 2 day i put an air flow adjusting knob on my hose to slow air down and after 2 days its back to normal after skimming out extra junk from dumping to much food in.
