thanks zyber!
a bunch of packages came in from BRS today - i really like the new site and their prices and availability of stuff can't be beat!
then i got to work on drilling holes in my frag tank and setting up my baffles for my sump.
first drilled the two returns on the corners.
then the other...
then it was time for the drains in the new overflow box...
all four holes done!
next installing the overflow box..
It just so happens that I'm looking to do the same setup that you did. I got inspired by this by Petco's $1 per gallon sale. I'm picking up a 40 breeder this weekend and a 29 for the sump. I didn't realize that you could drill tempered glass. I know the Aqueon brand of tanks have a plate bottom, but I thought the front, back and sides were tempered. If so, looks like it worked well for you.
What size holes did you drill? I was looking on BRS at the drill bits and guide. Where did the overflow box come from?
Thanks, and great job!
you cannot drill tempered glass. none of the sides are tempered on a 40B.
i drilled for a 1" sch80 bulkhead so i used the 48mm glass drill bit. the overflow box is a BRS purchase as well.
thanks for the comments - good luck with your build!
You can't drill tempered glass. The Aqueon brand is actually All-Glass, which uses tempered glass for the bottom, but not the sides.
here is what you need. Aquarium overflow box 700gphDisregard. I just contacted Aquaeon customer service and they confirmed all glass on the 40 breeder is non-tempered.
