180 gallons up in this!!!! NWKRC!

I've had worse algae:D
I dont know about raising the magnesium. But hair algae and bryopsis cant survive ( at not supposed too from what I've read) if the alkalinity is above 9DKH.
I've not had any show back up since I been maintaining 12 DKH.

I been using arm&Hammer baking soda to raise my alkalinity.
I like to bake it at 400* for an hour, then store it in an empty superbuffer container.
2 tea spoons a day seems to keep my alkalinity pretty stable 12DKH.

If you dont bake it,it'll lower your PH just a little. But baking it will raise the PH by .20.

picked up a phosphate reactor and a new little friend. lets hope they help!

nice urchin, but i dont know if that reactor will do much of anything on your tank, its only rated for a maximum tank size of 75 gallons

it will work, order some gfo pellets from bulkreefsupply it doesn't take much but that will hold enough for your size tank. I buy all my ro/di filters and carbon and gfo from them. you have to put correct amount in or you can strip your phosphates to fast and shock your system but it works great.

just make sure your phosban media or whatever kind of phosphate remover slow tumbles around and not to much or it will dissolve from being to turbulant but it does have to tumble around a little.

i have pencil urchin, rock urchin, 2 white pincushion urchins in my 125 gallon, plus yellow tang, scopas tang and fox face lo and all them together with my new vertex skimmer have made my tank algae free. Good skimmer helps alot also, got to get skimmer that can handle twice the size system you have.

Looking great Alexander.
Those urchins are awesome. But be sure to watch out for the spines, they sting a bit:D

You can at least double the amout of media you have in your reactor too. By the looks of it, you have maybe 5 tablespoons in there? FWIW, I have the same reactor and use about 12 tablespoons of BRS pellets for my 125.

Well its pretty much been forever since any update at all. thought I would show all you naysayers of sps in a algae riddled tank my sweet growth on my idaho grape from Jan till August. sadly thats all for now. nothing too fun going on. still really waiting for my koran to start changing colors.

well just when you think nothing new is happening something happens. this morning i wake up to a good amount of water in my kitchen. WONDERFUL. not a ton but enough to towel up. look and see that its coming from the bulkhead in the overflow box. so i do the only thing i can do and try to tighten it more. well that apparently squeezed the o ring out even more and i had a nice steady stream of water coming at that point. so return pump is unplugged and water is siphoned out. now i will to silicone around both sides of the o ring and tighten it and let sit for 48 hours. replacing it means cutting and repiping part of my plumbing and i dont want to do that if i dont have to. so in short...... THANK GOD FOR HOB SKIMMERS. haha never thought i would say that.

I went thru that exact same thing alexander when I moved my 90 from the livinroom to my sons room I talked to a friend of mine who works on tanks and he said that when we move tanks to makle sure when we are gonna put the o ring back in to make sure the area is clean and dry you could have a small piece of coral or some sand under the o ring. cause i was gonna silicon mine too but wen thome and tried to clean it, and walla it worked no leaks good luck on whatever methode you try:Cheers:
