I have a mix of many type of sand over years. Arag-Alive (Special Grade 1-2mm), Aragamax Sand and Ocean Direct Caribbean Live Sand Original Grade. I have my Vortec set a bit higher near the surface just enough NOT to pull in air from the surface. The reason I have it near the surface is that it can create standing wave better and it won't generate sand storm in certain occasion.
My tank's dimensions are 72 1/2 x 18 1/2 x 23 3/8.
