Hum, sounds like a pump. Is it submerged or external? If it is external, try putting a sponge or rag under it. If it is submerged, many manufacturers sell rubber feet that can go between the pump and the glass.

What I think it is, is I put some rubble rock in my sump and one of the larger pieces is sort of wedged between pump and sump wall. I figure if I remove that the hum will go away. However, that wedged rock is sort of serving a purpose which is ensuring that my float valve for my DIY RO/DI ATO does pull its mount up when it floats.
