Putter's first tank

Its a Desjardini Sailfin Tang.

dammit, reef beat me to it. Yes, it is a desjardini sailfin tang. needs a minimum of a 135 tank to survive as they can grow to be over a foot in length and 8 inches tall. Big fish, but reef safe.

DAM I knew I should have went a little bigger:grumble: oh well next time! Thanks againfor the ID on da fish :)

it will take YEARS for it to reach that size. you could have one now, if you were commited to putting up a bigger system after it reaches about 10 inches. we are talking 6 years for it to do that, if you get it at 3-4 inches.

 No anniversaries to forget. Sweet! Young marriages are such experiences. My first marriage was at 18, right before the army sent me to Nam. The second marriage was to an army nurse I worked with while going through my first divorce, which was right after I got back to the states. My second divorce came about because I stayed in Alaska, when I got out of the Army and my wife, who hated Alaska, went back to the states. My third wife I woke up married too after a two week drunk. Did not even know her. That was the straw that broke the camels back, I quit drinking and drugs and got a divorce. That was in 1992. Haven't married again since. Of course it has a lot to do with my not having drank or drugged since 1992. :^: Entered college in 1994, and I am still attending college. I did have a five year break from school, due to a "vacation" for nearly four years in Florence, Arizona. I have just been going half time since returning to school. Almost done, almost. I should have in excess of 210 credits when I graduate. Have taken a -few- extra classes.

Oh, that thing. Yeah, a fish. Fish live on reefs. Reef Forum, reef fish. Oh. Yeah, well, glad you all like the fish. Don't have neither the teeth, nor the big mouth I like in fish. Heaven forbid, it is not one of those peaceful fish, is it? Pretty wild color patterns though.

Doc, wish I could commit to a larger tank in 5 to 6 years, but that is just about the time the contract is up for the company I work for, and I have no idea which way I am heading for sure at that time. Better to be safe than sorry.

glad you have that kind of vision. if you cannot care for it, don't get it. that is being responsible

Well the QT is ready so the order goes out today here is a short list of the order;
1 x Green Star Polyps1 x Rhodactis - Common1 x Zoanthid - Colored1 x Florida Blue1 x Red Macroalgae

Is there any reason I should not be trying the corals listed? How are these particular corals attatched? Will I need to order some glue to stick em to the rocks? And, should I dare to plant the red macroalgae in the DT or is that asking for trouble?

Also gettting one more orcellious clown, fox face lo, and an emerald crab. Thanks in advance for the advice folks :)

those corals look fine. they may come attached to a small rock already and you just need to set them in the rockwork where you think they look best. they will eventually grow out and onto the surrounding rocks so give about 2-3 inches of room for growth around each coral. your GSP will spread all over the place. many people complain about them after a while. if you are not sure how you will react to them, place that coral near the bottom and on an isolated rock to see how they look once they start to spread

-Doc

Thanks doc, how about the macro algae? would you plant that in your DT? The only reason I am thinking about it is to add a little color and to provide snackables for the rabbit fish and the tang that I will eventualy have.

you can, but if you have a rabbit fish and tang in there, it will be gone very shortly. it ends up being an expensive snack. there are very pretty corals that would give the aquascaping element for you. I would just get green algae sheets for them to eat, much cheaper. My tangs seem to like the green ones best, followed by the brown algae. they are not fans of the red algae.

Thanks again doc, I have the algae sheets on order now and they should be here in the next day or 2, I think I will order the algae and plant it in the fuge, at least then I can harvest some of it from time to time and place it in the DT as a treat for the fishes.

Everything sounds good.
Isolate the GSP from the rocks and put the macroalgae in the sump.Post pics of your new corals.

Isolate the GSP? Not alot of room to keep it from the main rock, being a weird shaped tank and to the max with rocks, I have very little floor space available to isolate anything, will this thing consume the entire rock wall if it is placed at the bottom of the wall?
