little green guy

beeguiles

they call me fish geek ;p
So I brought a small zoa colony and xenia into my lfs and came home with a candy cane coral. My question is how fast do they grow new heads if they are Target fed a few times a week? Mine has only one right now. Just a little guy. Hopefully this link for the picture works.

You dont really need to feed those just good lighting and water quality and in my experience they grow really slow. I have had my candy cane for 6 months and i think it has like 3 extra heads.

As with most LPS you don't NEED to feed it and it'll grow faster in slightly "dirtier" water. I was feeding mine once or twice a week when I first got it but, the heads started growing faster then the skeleton could keep up (never a good thing). If you do want to feed it, wait till your actinics or moonlights come on at night and you'll see it put it's feeders out.

I got a 10 head CC that i target feed about 4 times a week with my other things. They are splitting pretty well for me. Though I've never not fed so im not sure what to say as to the growth one way or the other. Mine have started to split for me, about 1 1/2 months since i got it.

I find that if i move my hand to it in the water and "wave" it about ever so gently so that i move the water about, it puts its feeders out, but thats just me! :D

Sorry to say..it grows slow, no matter what you do. It took 2 months for mine to get comfortable in my tank, then another 4.5 months to start to produce other heads.
