Leather Coral Problem!

OK, so I have an issue with a new Leather Coral I bought yesterday. It has not opened since I put it in the tank 24 hours ago. When I look closely at it, it looks like there are small pink "slugs" or "worms" crawling on it. They are so small, you can barely see them. I have seen 4 so far. Has anyone else seen something like this? Any ideas? Thanks!

Sounds like Flat worms to me. Not a good thing!! You can take panty hose, rubber band it to the end of your siphon hose, then siphon any you can see out into the panty hose. Just make sure you have the panty hose over an empty bucket so you can recycle the water, unless your just doing a water change at the same time.

There's also a product call Flatworm Exit that I've seen. Just be careful when adding poisons like that to your tank. I may be wrong on my identification, if you can get a pic of them and post it, or just search for Flatworms and let us know.

It can take days and even weeks before a leather fully opens.Put in an area that has good flow but not direct flow. What lighting are you running?

As far as the worm/slug thing goes. There is a nudibranch that attacks leathers but they are rare.I'm not sure what it is without pics.I suppose it could be flatworms too.

Hey Evan. I think you may be right. I've been doing some research and it seems like this might be the case. Most say to use a Dip to treat them. I have one that I had to use about a year ago. I think I'll try that. Thanks for responding!

A dip will help the leather if it does have parasites. Hope that they haven't spread to other things in your tank. If that's the case then you'll have to medicate the whole thing for flatworms. We've all been there before. Unfortunately, they are a very common pest in this hobby.

Hey All,

Thanks for the words of advice. Biff, I think I caught it in enough time. The leather wa only in the tank 24 hours when I notivced there was something up. I dipped it yesturday and saw all the "worms" die off in 10 minutes. Rinsed it, put it back in the tank and within an hour it had opened up! I think all is well. If not, I'll let you know. LOL! Thanks again all!
