growth on live rock

I have only had my 55 gal. reef tank set up for about 5 months. Have had some good surprises, found a hermit crab and a star fish in the live rock we bought and, are doing well for a new tank. Have had our problem with ick lost three fish but, have overcome that. My question is that we have a yellow spongey growth in some spots on our live rock not sure if they are good or bad for the aquarium. Would appreciate some input.

Can you get some good, clear pictures? Those are what's helpful to us.

If they feel like a sponge, then they are. There's nothing wrong with them and they won't hurt anything.

Thanks! Trying to get the tank ready for some soft and hard corals. Nitrates are still a little high don't need any added problems.

You may want to rethink your maintenance or look into upgrading filtration

Definitely sponges and those are awesome! Sponges are one of THE best natural types of filtration you can have in your tank. Very beneficial.
