First little creature in my tank, living in the Live Rock

Reefing newb
Hello all! I am brand new to this, so I may be asking a question with an obvious answer, but here goes. I just added live rock to my tank a couple of days ago- and this little guy popped out last night. He opens and closes like an umbrella, and sometimes goes all the way back into his hole in the rock. He's purple and about a centimeter in diameter. I'm just wondering what he is. Any help in identifying him would be great. I am excited that something is alive in my tank. Cheers!

That is a common feather duster tube worm they are harmless filter feeders and good to have in your tank, the same goes for the yellow sponge just above the feather duster.

And welcome to Living Reefs!

Thank you Aquarian, good to know! I've had freshwater tanks for a while, but cool things like this don't just pop up in them. I am excited to begin this adventure.

It is an adventure, and when you think you seen everything in your tank you’ll see something new.
