cpr overflow

Ok, ive been running a cpr overflow for a month now and has anyone changed it up for better filtration. It seems iffy if my dt is getting as clean as i want. Yes it does pull water down, it just is at the top(skimmer) mostly and i want all the debris out. Idk, my filter socks are dirty so it is doing something

I hear the chemipure stuff helps clean your water?? Other guys I know with salt tanks use it. Turns yellow water clear supposedly? How has the overflow been working as far as overflows go? Need to get one ,but don't know if want to spring for the lifreef one for 200 bucks when one of the cpr one's will do the same without loosing siphon.

I have a overflow with the same design as the cpr just not the cost. Filtration in our tanks takes on many aspects. On my tank I have the sump/refugium with a skimmer in the first chamber, no socks. In the tank I have the live rock and powerheads. In addition I have a large hob filter that I use on the main tank for running carbon. The powerfilter does a couple of things for me. 1 I run carbon in it giving me crystal clear water. 2 it gives a nice ripple to the top so I dont have to worry about having a power head pointed at the surface. 3 it does give me addition mechanical filtration. (not much floats around in the water for long) Down side for it. you can see it. Some people want a less cluttered look in the DT, I also have to change the carbon/filter pad weekly. To me the good out weights the bad. Now I could have socks in the sump and add a carbon/gfo reactor and ditch the powerfilter. The reason I dont? I think that filter socks take out to many good things along with the bad. (pods being the good uneaten food being the bad) I want pods to be able to go into the sump and out with as little restriction as possible. As far as the reactor....well dont really have room for it and I am not sold on running gfo all the time. My filtration method is not for everyone but it works for me. For me it is the KISS principle at its finest and my levels are stable and always 0 on the big three. For your tank you might have a bigger bio load and need gfo all the time.

The biggest thing with how you want your filtration to run is what you are comfortable maintaining and what makes your tank look its best. No two tanks are going to be the same.

Its got to be the hob, im guessing its pick up is lower in the tank. I do have a couple mag350 canister filters, ill try that too. Its to much of a "chance" for fish poop from fish butt to actually float to exact spot for cpr filter to take care of it. I am running chemipure elite, activated carbon. Yes i pull every amphipod out. Copepods? Whatever is alive i do, what a pain. I spend about 20 min picking them off for filter cleaning.

I have to sleep some time...lol I work night shifts and I have my daughter this weekend. Anyway I did a canister filter for a several years on my corner tank, got to be a real pain in the butt taking it apart every week. Towards the end of that tank, started to get... well monthly take apart. What I have now once a week 30 minutes for a water changes and filter pad replacement is all I have to do.
