Brittany's teeny tiny reef!

It really is the devil lol I hate it. I just wish I left more space for a carbon and sponge compartment.

I hate that red slimmy stuff it is the devil my ninja star snails help but don't really take care if it all. But I have to say nice fuge Brittany

Great DIY Brittany. Looks fine to me. (The builder is always the worse critic.) Hope you get the slime cleared up. My tank got dino's. Not the devil, but the anti-christ!

Thanks guys. I did put a bigger chunk of sponge in yesteday and the water has cleared up a bit. Can't wait till this red slime is gone for good!

I have one tiny spot of it in my 90 that is in a spot I just can't reasonably point a powerhead without causing a sandstorm. It's on the sand in between a couple rocks down in the front of my tank. So I would have to attach a powerhead to the front glass right in the middle pointed directly down at the sandbed. Not a great idea, IMHO. So I put up with it. It hasn't spread, but it annoys the poop out of me.........

Samhain how do you have your powerheads?

You def hafta let me know how your HOB fuge works! I was inquiring about them on my thread. The lfs tried to talk me out of it and let him build me one for the bargain price of $299 (of course)! Right now I'm doing a 5gallon wc twice a week to keep nitrates in check. If your fuge helps, I'm going to convert my biowheel. I've got my fingers crossed for ya!! :)

Idk how this cyano is growing bc my nitrates are at zero. And before the cyano they were at zero. I'm thinking of doing the red slime remover tonight or tomorrow as well as a water change to suck out the dead slime. I will update on how the fuge goes.

Good luck Brittany! I'm sorry to see you are struggling again with this tank! Are you still using RO/DI water? The HOB fuge looks nice tho! What size filter is it? I know you can modify the impeller to get more moderate flow through the fuge which is suppose to help too. When I had the one I made out of the HOB breeder tank I really liked it. I since put a sump in. It almost looks like you could put a filter insert in that small area between the intake and the chaeto. The ones that have the plastic skeleton with the mesh cover over them and carbon inside.

Okay sooo I just did a water change and pulled off all the dead red slime. Let me tell you that was nasty. It just peeled right off. Anyways it looks much better now. Here is still some slime I missed so I think I will go ahead and treat once more to kill whatever is left over. The fuge seems to be doing well. I took a look in there and the cheato is still green. Now that the red slime is gone I hope the cheato takes off growing. Now the only problem I have is euphyllia bugs infesting my lps corals. Im thinking of getting some interceptor and treating the whole tank with it. I will have to remove my snails and hermits and cheato so they don't die but hopefully it will kill off those pesky little buggers. Soo that's my update for now. I'll show you a before and after pic to show you how much red slime there was and now isn't.

Oh and Snyder you're right there is a space for the sponge cardridges. Right now I just have a reg sponge and a small bag of carbon in there. But the two in one things would be perfect.
