Brian's 75 Gallon

yeah i dont have any phosphate remover. honestly i dont know what to look for.
what are they?
should i have done the phosphate test? calcium test?

Theres several kinds of phosphate media. There Rowa-Phos,Phos-Guard,GFO (granulated ferric oxide).
I dont even own a phosphate kit, mainly because they only pick up on the inorganic phosphates. And since we also have to contend with organic phosphate,I just dont test for it,I let my tank tell me when its getting high.

Actually,Its the corals that will key you in to phosphates, especially SPS corals.
If you've measurable amounts of phosphates, most SPS will turn brown and probably start to bleach.

Depends on how heavy you stock the tank with fish and well you maintain it.
If you keep up with the maintance, stock lightly, have plenty of rock, and feed sparingly, you may not have to worry about it.But thats after the tank has matured enough to handle it.
To start with,I'd say to at least keep some on hand.Because your gonna have some algae problems.Diatoms, hair, cyano, there all gonna hit at some point. Its all part of the tank settling in.

yeah thats what i hear.

so it comes in powder form? i dont need a reactor?
im on drfostersmith.com looking and thats what it looks like.

haha sorry i was in class guys.

It'll help keep the algae down if you dont run the lights,But a couple of hours a day aint gonna hurt nothing.Besides, you gotta see whats happening inside the tank, and thats hard to do with the lights off.

You will get some nuisance algae growth during the cycle. Especially if you leave the lights on the whole time. You will have diatoms growing. But cool tank so far.

haha it just sucks because when i move some rock it gets all cloudy and then i have to stop for about 2 hours til it clears up and try to pick up where i left off

By the time your satisfied with the rock work, you'll be able to aquascape and NOT disturb a single grain of sand
