Biffy Finally Gets a Build Thread!

Biff,Just remember to put fans in front of open windows and give 2 to 3 weeks AFTER the die offs gone. Then you'll be happy you done it.

I ordered some rock today. From Aquarium Fish: Tropical Freshwater Fish and Saltwater Fish for Home Aquariums

90 lbs. Fiji rock (large size) and 40 lbs. Caribbean rock. I'll post pics when it comes! I'm going to have a WONDERFUL time curing this stuff in my house!

Damn it Biff,I thought you weren't ordering any rocks for awhile.I already made my order for 60lbs Tonga Deepwater show size.If this rock doesn't look any better than the Fiji and I paid a premium,I gonna be pissed.

curing rock in your house? Lovely smell. I bet I will be able to smell it from here!!! lol. Don't forget to use a skimmer when you cure it.

Yeah. It's still 100+ degrees here every day. I can't leave the windows open or I'll fry! And Dr. Marco... I don't have an extra skimmer for the live rock. I'm going to cure them in rubbermaid tubs.

I am in for some major stinkiness... I did think about curing the rock on my back porch outside, but I think the water will get too hot for that. I don't think I have a choice but to do it inside...with the windows closed...

I got excited. And couldn't wait. I'm so impulsive like that. When I want something, I want it NOW. And I get it NOW! I was thinking of buying a box of the Tonga Deepwater show size also. If yours looks nice, maybe I'll get that next time, since I do want a mix of different rock types. My rocks should be here early next week! Yay!

I thought there Fiji was already cured. Why not cure it in the DT,sure it still may have die-off but the cycle should go really quick.I honestly don't think it will smell bad.The Lalo,I ordered smelt pretty fresh for uncured rock.

I don't think it's already cured. The Caribbean is definitely not. I can't cure it in my DT, I'm moving all my fish and corals into it immediately and all at the same time. Because my new tank is going in the same place where my old tank is, and my old tank is going underneath as the sump. So if I cure it in my DT, it might kill all my friends!

I couldn't even wait til next week,I paid an extra 20 cents a pound to get it here tomorrow.

OK,I checked liveaquaria again, your right. Its pre-cured and not fully cured.

are you going to use your current skimmer for your new tank? Is it rated high enough to do that? If I were you, I would use your current skimmer on your 55 to help cure the LR. Your DT can go a few days at a time without your skimmer. Just an idea.

what happen to going slow... your killing all the newbee's.. we hold you to a higher sanderd your the BIFF !!! you want it now.. NOW come on walk us thorugh all the hard stuff... slow.... slow........ haha go as fast as you want as. long as you send pic's were cool...did yo already have salt in the water or was it just RO water... RO just clean the carpet......... salt well..... new carpet

No it was saltwater that flooded... The carpets were all steam cleaned last night. Hopefully that got all the salt out. Hopefully they'll turn out okay!

I think that I tend to go fast with pretty much everything in my life... That's the way I am. My tank is no exception!

I use Kent marine salt myself. I believe its a good choice. Pics of the rock when you get it. I put 20 lbs of uncured fugi and 20 lbs of uncured tonga in my sump to seed the system and let it cure there, took 2 months but when I sold it back to the lfs it had a very clean smell to it. good luck on the curing of the rock.

Yeah I was really impressed about how quickly the Kent Marine salt dissolved. It says on the bucket that it's more fine so that it can dissolve better. In one bucket, I used some leftover Red Sea salt that I had. Two days later, there's still salt sitting on the bottom of that bucket. No salt sitting on the bottom of any of the buckets that I used Kent Marine in. I'll definitely be using this salt from now on. It wasn't very expensive either.

I used some Red Sea salt when I initially did the setup on my tank. Took a couple days to get it all dissolved. I switched to Instant Ocean. Seams to work okay.

Sorry about your indoor pond. That totally blows. :grumble:

Curing live rock inside the house because of the Arizona heat? With the windows shut and the A/C on? WHEWWW that some funky smell ya got there!!! Your CLOTHES in the closet are gonna smell by the time it's all cured.

I see that you have joined the exclusive ranks of the AFT Club, RC! Yay! An initiation package containing 365 different types of algae has been sent to your house -- one for every day of the year! Yeah, the AFT is so cool, we have our own Daily Algae program.
