378 to 12 ppm? unless you think that 97% efficiency isnt good enough. Ive heard that you want it to be 98 percent and when it gets to 94 or something you should change it. But maybe keep it below the level where it will cause a cyano bloom. Does southwest saltwater have a water quality testing machine or something? You could check to see what the 12 ppm consists of. It might be nice to know.

So? What does the RODI water taste like??

Just a thought, I purchased a water filter on line as a prefilter, my tds in is 235 - 265 after the prefilter and 0 out of the ro/di system. I do have one additonal stage more than you do, but, maybe by lowering the initial tds you may be able to get lower. just a thought. you should probably check with the ro system manufactuer and see what their opinion is. I ran and discarded the 1st 2 hours of water before collecting for the system when I initially started it up. You will need the system to run a bit before saving and each time the system sits for more than a day you will need to discard the initial water until it purges the cylinders to get rid of the water that has just been sitting. hope this helps. good luck.

Yeah I tested all three 36-gallon trash cans that I've filled so far. All tested at either 11 or 12 ppm. So the first 36 gallons read the same as 100 gallons later. So I'm guessing that's as good as I'm going to get with this system. That's a good idea John about adding a water filter before the RODI system, Tucson tap water is so bad that I might have to do that.

But for now, is it safe for my to use this water for the initial set up of my tank?

i gotta say, this tank is gonna be insane...i though my 46 was big, but this is just crazy, i hope that one day im going to be able to have something that big!!!

It's not going to be that insane. It will be the emptiest tank around for quite a while, until I can save up the money to buy another 400 lbs or so of live rock!!

I've been looking at coral sites too. At Reefermadness Home Page they have mixed frag packs, 30 frags of zoas, shrooms, ricordias, LPS and SPS for $270, shipping included. I think I may get two of those mixed frag packs. The frags from that site are really NICE, beautiful colors and some really rare varieties. That will get my coral started on its way. A lot of people don't like buying little frags, but I don't want to spend an insane amount of money on a bunch of big corals, plus I like to watch them grow in my tank, in front of my eyes.

I also made up a tentative "fish wish list dream team" last night. So after I get my rocks in, I will start to slowly add the fish that I've picked out.

Okay, this is off topic, but I'm excited because I also got a new cat last night from the pound. He's just a plain little black guy. He's at the vet today getting neutered :(. I named him Chimi (as in Chimichanga). Chimi joins Mango, Petri and Stella (the other three cats) and Bixler (the dog) as the newest mammal in my house! So :p to Yote, Freak and all the other kitty haters on here!

Damn, you got a zoo in that house!

Where are you getting the live rock at?Speaking of Reefermadness, they have some good rocks according to people on RC.Order some and tell me how you like them.I hate to burn money on ugly rocks.
