Anemone question...

i would remove the anemone and put it in a tank with nothing else in it and just let it die in peace. I highly doubt it will make it. Remove it now while you still can.

Yes, I had to give my old bubble tip anemone a vodka bath when it started to die. And I accidentally killed it using an algae killer chemical in my tank that was supposedly "reef safe", which is why I don't believe that ANYTHING is ever 100% reef safe, even if it says so on the bottle :( I felt guilty and I cried while doing it.

Catherine,Put one of those latex gloves on.Then GENTLY pick the anemone up and peel the glove down over your hand and enclosing the anemone in the glove. That will minimize the anemone parts left in the tank and hopefully keep you from getting a nose full anemone death.

hi

i gust what to make sure i got all the tools i need i gust got a anemone and i did not buy from them i got my anemone at sea&dwellers and friends that told me that are easy but i have a ? the feed that gave me coralife liquid food and said feed it 3 drops every Monday,Wednesday, and Friday the liquid food and on Sunday a small pic of shrimp and the light well be good till he gets on the live rock . my tank has been up and running for 2 years ++++

thanks

They just sold you some food you probably didn't need IMO. You could try to feed it a small 1/4" piece of raw table shrimp and see if it eats. If not, try again next week. They don't need to eat all that often if they have good BRIGHT lighting. My rose anemone only accepts a little bit once or twice a week. The drops would be real tough to spot feed I'd think. You'd have to turn off all your pumps. I'm not all too certain the tentacles would absorb the liquid food either. I'm not 100% sure though, I'm no expert by any means. Just my experience feeding them that's all. HTH

Coralife liquid is a coral food. And not that great a coral food at that.Seem to do better for algae from what I've seen of it.
I used to feed my anemone about every 3 or 4 days.Either a piece of table shrimp, silver side,or something like that.

What makes a BTA actually expand his bubble tips?
Does that mean he's happy? Or trying to suck up more light?
I have one in my tank which is much too early but I got him in trade so I figured I'd give it a shot and watch him carefully. He seems to be doing great, found his happy spot in the tank and expands pretty huge. He'll eat food from my hand and my clown has been hosting him. I'd say everything has been going as described for about a good two months. Not too shabby for a 4 month old tank. But he almost never has any actual bubble tips. All his tentacles stay pretty thin. Some start to form a bubble-ish tip but not much/many. Any clue on how I should be reading this behavior?
Oh, and the spot he picked is at least halfway up my rock work. His foot is attached underneath a rock that is almost like a flat bridge. He stretches way out and fully expands for most of the day, almost on top of the same rock, sucking up rays, then when the lights go off he retracts into a ball under the rock and goes nighty night until the lights turn on again in the morning.
And like I said, this has been the same day in and day out for a good two months.

They get the bubbles when they dont need anymore energy.I fed mine every couple of days, which pretty much kept it full and happy.Usually had big fat bubble tips.
