algea scrubbers

Was reading an article about building an algea scrubber for your tank. Sounds pretty easy. Has anyone tried one of these and had any luck? If you build one do you still use a normal filter? Appreciate the help.

I have never used one but a few people on here have and have had varying amounts of success with them. You should still be using a protein skimmer in your tank.

I haven't used one but its a very good concept and should work well if built properly. The idea is giving the algae a better place to grow than anywhere else in your tank and also hacking that better place be where you want it so you can easily remove it periodically.

I just put one on my system. Teed it into my down-pipe. I put a male adapter and a threaded cap on the end of the line so I can remove just the screen for cleaning. So far it's just a bit brown, but I had my lights a bit too fat away from it and misread the timer so it wasn't on for the prescribed amount.
