What is this growing on my rock

Ok. So its beneficial for the tank and i should just leave it? Or scrub it off?

Slippery and slimey does not sound like a sponge to me.It still looks like the cobweb like clump of decaying matter.I would scrub it clean,personally.

But it seems to be growing/spreading. Would the cobweb stuff do that?

That looks more like bacteria feeding on some die off to me.I'd scrub it in some saltwater.

Ok. Im going to buy some distilled tomorrow and i will do it then. Gonna be a pain lol its on quite a bit of the rock.

Well looks like a sponge but who cares. It will most definitly not hurt to scrub it.

ok so i srubbed it off and it smelled like really rotten eggs. The rock is black where the fungus was at. I mean it smelled really bad

Sponges don't smell like rotten eggs so you did the right thing.

Well woke up this morning and the fungus is already growing back. I dont know what to do

It can take months to get control of things like this. Since your still in a cycle let it cycle then take control of that stuff with some water changes etc. Who knows it may die off on its own.

From the pictures you posted it looks like sponge to me to. Does it have a hard slick surface or a soft one?

I guess im just gonna let it go and see what happens. Maybe it will just die off on its own. Im curious if there are any crabs or snails that would eat it?

Maybe if it's something dead small blue legged hermits might eat it.Well,probably not.

Remember hermits kill snails for shells.
