What ARE these??

So, in the back right of my aquarium I noticed grey "hairs" protruding from the sandbed. I had never seen them until I set my new lights (that just came in the mail) on the aquarium, and the lights lit that area up. What are they?

I'm not sure if this is the same thing (maybe the ones in the first picture finally broke through the sandbed?). These "roots" have been growing along the glass in the front of the aquarium for a while now.

Okay, so I think the two pictures are unrelated. Like Hiker said, the ones in the first picture I think might be worms. I dug a few out with my finger and they are about 1 cm long, they wiggled trying to get away from me. When I attempted to net a few of them, they broke apart. I don't know anything about spaghetti worms...Does this description match a spaghetti worm, or are they something else? Are they harmful to the aquarium? Should I be concerned?

As for the second picture...They might be snail eggs? I'm not so worried about them, because they have been around forever and seem to be harmless. Could they be roots of hair algae or something of the sort, though? They look more like roots than egg trails to me...
