Water changes will bring it down, but will prolong it too. You will have lower levels for a longer period of time, which is safer if there are animals in the tank. The alternative is higher levels for a shorter period of time. Keep doing what you're doing, it will be okay!

Only thing in the tank is my CuC and my mandarin again since my buddy had to head outta town for work for a month. Everyone seems fine in the tank. Don't see any signs of stress.

That's good. Mandarins are pretty hardy fish when it comes to water quality.
