Thermometer Placement?

I got one of those little digital doohickeys and was wondering if it matters where I put it... tank or sump?

it really doesn't matter. I have mine placed on the overflow.

It doesn't really matter where as long as its not right next to the heater.Those digital thermometers aren't the most accurate so I use two.One is behind the overflow tower and another is in the return section of the sump.

i had to put mine down about halfway in the tank or it read the heat from the lights more than the water

If its one of those black coralife ones they sell for 10 bucks it could be off by +/- 7 or 8 degrees, IME

I had pretty bad luck with my old digital thermometer. Always have an old-fashioned alcohol-based backup on hand and check the accuracy often.
