Room for growth

So I didn't leave enough room now I have a few coral that are starting to fight for space, should I move them or leave them to let them figure it out, mushrooms and candy canes are my biggest concern right now they are really close but its going to be a bit of work to move them so I am afraid i will wind up doing more harm then good by trying to move them? what would you do?

Get the boxing gloves out and let them duke it out!
If it will do more harm moving them then I would leave them. Are you seeing real damage from them co-existing?

I agree if it will cause alot of problems then let them go but if they can easily be moved then I would move them.

I would leave them alone also...corals will control each other from overgrowing and taking over their space...I say let nature take its course, unless one coral is straight out killing the other.

This is what happens where corals get too close.

Here's a pic from 11-08. When i get home later i'll post a current pic. Look at the edge of the monti cap where it meets the star polys near the front, where it meets the elkhorn monti towards the middle and where it meets the zoas towards the back.

I think what Larry is saying is the monti is growing around the other corals and not filling out as if they were not in it's way......at least that's what it looks like to me

Thats what its doing.
One of the guys at the LFS here, has a red monti cap thats grown around an acro.Theres a good 1/2" all the way around the acro, with the acro growing up through the hole.

A pic (or a few) is better than 1,000 words. ;)

About the same angle as above, but 9 months later.

My brown button polyps sting the crap out of the green hairy mushrooms. The edges of the mushrooms are white and curled back. The button polyps are winning. I like the button polyps better anyway, so the mushrooms will have to get stung and grow somewhere else.

My candy cane fell off it's perch and fell right on top of the acan lords. Poor candy cane. It was melted and looked like blue goo as I pulled it off the top of the acans. 2 months later, neither coral is any worse for wear. The candy cane grew back and the acans puffed up again within an hour after I removed the candy cane.

Thats kinda why I started a frag tank. I think almost every reefer has a frag tnak at some point. Corals grow and fight, but you like both types, so you end up pruning then back. It keeps them at bay for a few months. They always grow back though. :helm2:
