on a protein skimmer whats a drain fitting for

im looking at this at a skimmer and it says it has one whats it for

For using a different resivoir instead of the little cup on top of the skimmer, like on mine I have it fill a 2 liter bottle.

What size tank is it. If it if 55 or larger I would get the pro with the Mag3.
