New with some questions (photos too)

Nah didn't you guys see my earlier posts, I've got an RO DI unit. Yeah freshwater has been in there for about a week so that other stuff you said makes sense.

lol do you realize how many post I read a day. I just hit the new post sections and go to the newest post. My memory aint what it use to be.:D Ya your water was starting to try and become a fresh water tank and then you added salt. So now the stuff that was growing in the fresh died and the skimmer is cleaning it out.

So is there anything else I need to know before I go pick this stuff up. So I've got the salinity balanced, water temp about 76 degrees, protein skimmer running powerheads running... Should be good for live rock. So once I get it, I guess I just put it all in there? (I wasn't going to stack it at first to help avoid dead spots, but I guess a little die off on the way home won't be bad since it helps start the nitrogen cycle correct?

For some reason though, that bubble diffuser on the protein skimmer isn't doing a very good job of diffusing the little tiny bubbles, what should I do, put like a sponge in there?

Those bubble traps on those skimmers dont do a very a good job.I ran one of those skimmers for over a year. But I ran it in my sump so the bubbles didnt cause that much trouble.
You can take a piece of sponge and cut a hole in it for the tube from the skimmer.Let the sponge come up out of the water to the bottom of the tube. It'll help, but wont completely stop the bubbles.

I just like to not have sooooo many. I don't mind bubbles but the really tiny ones are annoying.

Anyways so I was reading more about specific gravity and stuff with the temperature thing, but I'm wondering about calibrating my hydrometer, see but I don't think it needs to be cause it doesn't say anything on the package about it and it has a green zone on both the hydrometer part and thermometer part so I'm guessing that probably means it's calibrated in the green zone?? This is the one I have:

PETCO Aquarium Hydrometer with Thermometer at PETCO

According to it I am around 1.023 or so (middle of green zone) and the temperature is around 76 degrees (middle of thermometer green zone)

Well no they are usually already calibrated to certain scale, the question was were they calibrated in the range of 72-78 degrees meaning is the reading correct.

yes it is. the main thing you have to remember is to try to maintain as close as possible your gravity reading. You can and most do go a little higher for corals but not over 1.026. I think you are fine where you are at. It will vary a little with evaporation. Just make sure you do top offs with non saltwater daily.

I went and picked up 150 pounds of live rock from denver which is about like 240 miles. I put wet newspaper around it and it worked just fine. Now if it has any kinda live coral on it I put it in a bucket of wsaltwater from his tank. So b4 you buy it check to see if it has any coral on it then youll need a bucket.. But the newspaper does definatly work

Ugghhh this is annoying, the guy didn't answer his phone at all today, so I couldn't get a hold of him to come pick up the rock. And I was looking at the emails again and those pictures I posted were actually for another guys 75 lbs. of live rock that he was selling for $175, I'll have to get this guy to send me some photos. I just hope he'll get my messages on his phone I was all ready to come pick it up.

Well yeah I think like on sunday when I talked to him I told him that I could come tuesday and he said that was fine and I told him I would call him first. The number he gave me though is his cell phone which is probably why he didn't get my messages. I know he is serious about selling it especially since he told me that he would tell anyone else that he already has someone interested and he took the live rock off his craigslist listing.

ok everybody let all road trip and kick this dude ass. (if you dont get your rock) Would suck if he needed the money so bad hes phone was turned off. Anyway keep trying I guess you might have to start thinking of plan B.

Yeah well he sounded pretty sincere besides he made a second listing for all his aquarium stuff decreasing the price so I dunno. I emailed him, but the first time I emailed him he didn't respond right away so I'll hopefully hear back from him soon, otherwise whatever, that other guy will sell me 75 lbs. for 175 dollars which is still a good deal.

Btw, if a mod could move this thread to the "New to Reefing" section that would be cool, might get more replies, not to mention this is now way beyond the scope of "hello I'm new here.." lol
