New filter broke on 2nd day of cycling

Alright, so I just started my new tank and its cycling on saturday night. Today, i found that a small crack in a pipe had bursted and now the filter is done for. I called the website and they should have me a new one before I leave on thursday. Will not having a filter on in the tank mess things up?

That's not a problem. That type of filter isn't necessary on your tank anyways. Have you considered not using it altogether?

Like biff said u don't really need that filter those are mainly used for freshwater tanks and tend to trap a bunch of nitrates that are harmful to ur tank! Ur live rock will act as ur filter or u could always get a protein skimmer or maybe a sump?

So you guys are saying not using a filter at all? How will oxygen get into the tank?
I use rocks in the filter itself, instead of the filter cartridges that it comes with.

You need to have powerheads. No tank can run without powerheads -- regardless of the filtration you are using.

Well yea, I have powerheads also. Using a smaller one than usual, but its a powerhead.

Correct u don't need any filter just get a good flowing powerhead and your live rock will do the rest.
