My first saltwater aquarium. 14g BioCube.

your shrimp is preggers :D:Cheers: your going to be a reef parent..... Well for a short time atlest unless you have a breeding tank set up more than likely the fry will be eaten and sucked up by your filter if any do make it to a safe place they'd prob starve then be eaten.

If you were to bread I'd do a small tank like a 10-20g bubbler for the fry and have a rotifer culture setup. my pepermints breed almost like clock work every 3 to 4 months.

Ahhh what a beautiful picture you've painted Kurt. :)
Nice addition to your tank copies. Cleaner shrimp are the best, so fun to watch.

I know it was quite grim but its what happens to the fry after they hatch in a normal tank set up at lest the other live stock will get a buffet that night. Hell even the shrimp will eat there young:shock: lol now thats grim

As much as I would love to be able to raise the fry, I just dont have the set up for it. Unfortunately this is what is going to have to happen, the protein skimmer has already collected a few as well as other parts of the filter.

Also I have new additions photos soon to come 15-30 minutes.

FISHIES!!! I picked up two true percula clown fish, these are tank-bred. One has a broken middle band.

Real nems = real problems in new tanks. New tanks are rather volatile in the first year, and even expert aquarists hesitate to put nems in new tanks. They need excellent lighting, pristine water conditions, and stability to thrive. And unlike a coral or fish that dies, a nem will nuke your tank on its way out. When a nem dies, it releases its nematocysts (stinging cells) that then float everywhere in your closed environment, killing everything in their path. In the ocean that doesn't cause a problem because they are quickly diluted in the ginormous water volume that is, well, the ocean. But in a closed system of a fish tank, especially a small one, everything will die. :death:

Just my :twocents:, but I would see if you can take those nems back to your LFS. And if you're worried that the clowns need the nems, stop worrying. Clowns will choose practically ANYTHING as a host, and they don't tend to host those nems anyway. So see if your LFS will let you trade the nems for an easy keeper coral like a Duncan, Fuzzy mushroom, or xenia that can make a suitable "house" for the clowns and not kill your tank! Other than that, your tank looks GREAT, and I really like your stock choices.

After Samhain's advice and further reading I did return the nems. So at the moment I dont have any plants. Ill probably stop at the fish shop by my work tomorrow and pick something up.

Cool. Yeah, you don't want the headache. Nems are an invertebrate. Check out some corals, a duncan, as samhain suggested, would be great. Looks a bit like a nem, long wavy tentacles with nice movement in the water.
Let us know what you pick, can't wait to see pictures!

Good choice. After a year or so, if you still want to get a nem, and all your params are stable, GO FOR IT! They're neat creatures, just not appropriate for new tanks or new reefers.

Really looking forward to seeing what you do with this tank. There are a ton of coral possibilities open to you!

Cool fishes!

Good move on returning the nems.
A good alternative if you are looking for something for them to host is LPS like frogspawn or torch corals. It's very common for clowns to eventually host these corals.I even have a clown in my nano that is hosting my zoas on the sand bed!

Java the Shrimp had her first molt today

This clown hasnt moved from this spot for the last couple of hours. I dont know is there is anything wrong with her. She looks normal and just like how I got her. Also I believe her to be female and the other male, cause he tried to court her last night. But these are just assumptions.

The bigger clown would be the female. If your clowns are the same size however you could be in trouble. Clowns are oddities though, she (or he) could simply be hosting that spot.

DW about the clown it is probably fine (clows act weird). Good move on returning the nems. My clown loves my kenya tree, sits in it half the day usually. At first the kenya hated it and shrunk up all the time but now it is used to it.

Your tank is very nice! Did you ask to see the scooter eat at your LFS? They can be fussy like Mandarin Dragonettes in that they a lot of times will reject frozen food in favor of eating pods off of the rock. In a small tank they can starve themselves to death. Just wanted to make you aware so that you can take necessary precautions. :)
