My 10 Gallon Sump for 55 Gallon Aquarium

Allright so I ordered some chaeto on ebay, came in today. Nice big bag of it. I got one of those clamp lights and then I had to figure out a good way to mount it. So I took a hack saw I had lying around, took the front piece out and welded it to a C-clamp. This allows me to clamp the light directly over the sump where the chaeto is. As far as a bulb, I used one of those 45 watt outdoor halogens.

looks good, the only thing that i would say is to change out that bulb, I just used the little spiral flourescent ones... the "65" watt version, and i use the 2700K ones, and my calurpa grows like mad!

and i only suggest changing it so that there is less heat, and it uses less power...

Well I like this one because it's very focused so it's easy to aim where I want it which means it also only heats of whatever is in it's beam, because of that the metal reflector doesn't get hot at all, and since they are usually used for like security lights they are weather proof which means that I don't have to worry so much about water splashing on the bulb or anything.

Yeah I'll let you know, seems fine so far. If it's really as hardy as they say it is it'll probably work fine. How long before it will kill my hair algae in my tank? I have noticed it turning a little darker, and not popping up everywhere.

So the bulb I'm using is working however I think since it is so focused sometimes a small portion of the algae turns white. So maybe I should try the bulb you suggested.
