hi i have a 50 g tank and the lighting the tank came with was t8 lighting which seemed to be great for just my fish but now i am wanting to introduce some bubble tip anenomies into my tank so i recently invested in some led strips and made my own lighting for my tank i have 2 strips that are approx 1mtr long each and one is a bright white light and 1 is blue which when all on make the lighting in my tank so much better ... was just wanting some advice on this subject to see if the bta would survibe ok under this lighting ?????

First off, how long has your tank been up? Have you kept corals with any sucsess? If the answer to the first question is less than a year, and/or the answer to the second question is no - you aren't ready for anemones.

Onto the LED's. I'm guessing these LED strips are several 1 Watt LED's with no optics. These LED's will only support corals in VERY shallow tanks, and are probably not enough for Anemones (some of the most light demanding critters available to us) Most of these 'stunner' strips are for supplementing existing lighting to get the color mix more pleasing to the human eye

You're better off looking at T5's, Metal Halides with T5 supplementation or a real LED fixture....

tank been runnng a few yrs my brother had it then i bought it off him . to be honest i havent ventured to corals yet because i was wanting to be comfortable with keeping fish ... i do have some small groups of polyops that seem to be doing fine also i knew t8's were no good for corals anyway also i have about 20 small anemones in my tank and the get fed about every 2 weeks and they seem to be happy i am currenty looking at converting my current lighting to t5's .. my water is always kept perfect by water tests every week and do water changes every 2 weeks .....

just checked that out some of the anemones are aiptasia but they were in the tank when i got it and they dont seem to bother anything in the tank but i dont really like them any tips on removing them

i belive the anemones i have in the tank are actinia equina and they have nice colours but i know not many rate them but was a bit impatient when i got the tank but to be honest i aint had any issues with them at all

Can you post a picture of these nems? We can tell you what they are and if you need to get rid of them. But im going to guess that because they can live in your low light, they are probably pests. Unless you have seahorses or other perching fish, they wont bother your fish much. But when you get into corals they can easily sting your corals to death.

Also, until you have had success keeping some of the higher end corals, I wouldnt consider keeping a nem. Too much risk involved.

yeah thats the little suckers lol..... but got up this morning and all my lighting had blown so new t5 lighting unit on its way and my local fish shop has just getting some small coral frag in... once lighting is sorted i may venture into a small frag and see how i get on and thanks for the info !!!!
