so i am hanging my light fixture today and im wondering if theres and porcedure to drilling as in how and where i can and cant drill... they are 3 inch screws so i feel like they will hold in anything but just wanna make sure i dont rip two holes in the ceiling

I would make sure you are drilling into one of the ceiling joists, I doubt a few screws into sheet rock would be able to support your fixture.

If you dont have one, go pick up a stud finder. They can be gotten for less than 20 bucks. If you dont, you will have to knock on the ceiling and try to find the joist that way.
