LED Aclimation Question !!

Civicdemon

Go Big Or Go Home !
Ok guys so i know have LEDs and im about to set them up, my question is, i have alot of Corals that are medium lighting up high since i have PC lights right now. My LEDS have dimmers so will i be ok to leave everything where it is and just slowly turn up my lights every week if i start from the bottom ???? Or should i move some stuff around ??? Some things i cant moved like my duncan ( Halfway up the tank, and Frogspawn Half way up also.

I didn't move anything around but used my dimmer control as you are planning. That worked fine for me. You will still have to monitor and may end up moving something when you get to the more intense end of the LED's.
I don't even run 100% now and mine have been running since July.

Yeah the people i talk to say they run theres at 65 to 75 % and get good growth on SPS so i dont think i will be going all the way up, especially since i have mostly LPS now. Not for long do lol. Only SPS i have is a birdsnest and a Monti. So hopefully i see way better growth on them and i can add some more.

I have three anemones which in my opinion are more light demanding then SPS and they are doing fine. Crocea clam is doing great too. My LEDs are ~75% power.

Nice man. How.high off.the water are your leds ? Im making the thing to hold them and currently its about 10 inches above.the water with leds mounted should they be closer

Mine is around 10" as well. Some have them higher and some lower. Personally, my positioning came down to aesthetics and it worked well for growth.

Ok cool thanks. Just need to screw the brackets to my stand and get some timers and i should be up and runing

Your best option would be to try and get a light meter and measure your existing par under the PC lights, and then set your LEDs about the same, then increase them by about 5% every two weeks until you reach your desired level with the LEDs. If you don't own a PAR meter, then I'd check to see if any other reefers near you have one you could borrow. One of our local club members has a stunning reef tank, he switched from T5 to AI Sols and this is the method he recommends. So many people don't take time to really acclimate to the LEDs and then are so upset with how their corals look under the LEDs that they end up ditching them and going back to T5 or MH. Especially with your tank under PCs, I would start your LEDs pretty low (say 30%) and then work up from there (if you don't have access to a PAR meter, I think that's where I would start - and that's what I've heard recommended by a handful of people in my area as well).

OK Guys i have My Leds on Now and mounted, still dont have a timer but im planning on turning them on and off my self untill i get the timer. Anyways my question is How will i know if i have turned them up to much and how long will it take before i can tell. Right now i have the blues on the lowest setting and the whites up maybe 10 to 15 % turn on the knob. It doesnt really look as bright as my Power compacs right now but when i turn them up half way they are really bright and all the way on its crazy bright. So yeah how much should i turn them on to start and how will i know if its to much ???
