We are cleaning the filter every other week and our Nitrate is still at 20 with a 5 gallon water change :frustrat: .
 
Hmm ... Doesn't sound like you're over feeding. You should try a few larger water changes like 10 gallons or so once to twice a week to see if that helps.

On another note, you should add a few more kinds of frozen food to their diet, they need variety and also, brine is on the lower end as far as nutritional value.
 
There are tons of frozen food out there, I'll just name a few. Squid, krill, mysis shrimp, rotifers, cyclops, silversides. You would need to chop up the silversides though. You can even feed seafood like table shrimp and sushi roe, you just need to make sure you buy the unseasoned kind.
