Unfortunanly, these things come with the territory. You could spend 100 dollars on premium LR and still get these things. So you got a good deal. As for the mantis, if you could, take the rock out and shoot his home with a turkey baster full of hot water. Should either get him out of there without doing much damage to the rest of the rock inhabitants.

Mantis are hard to catch! Sometimes the traps work, but it seems more often than not, you end up trapping an animal that you didn't mean to catch. I hate to say it, but it may be time for you to re-aquascape in order to catch that guy!! :(

PS -- you can also try tying some fishing line around a piece of food, and lure the guy out with the food. Slowly raise the food into the air if he's latched onto it. Have a net ready, and scoop him up with it while he's mid-water.
