If the guy that put that stuff in your tank is new to the business, he won't be in the business for long. Rule #1 about treating ich: NEVER EVER EVER treat in the main tank. Any treatments that work against ich will also work against the GOOD bacteria and inverts in your tank.

The only way to get Ich out of your main system is to leave it fallow for eight weeks. Ich has a life cycle that includes eggs. The eggs can lay dormant in your substrata for up to eight weeks before they hatch. Once they hatch, the swimmers literally have hours to find a host, fish, before it dies. No eggs, no swimmers, no Ich. Now you have a clean system. The problem now is, anything you add can add Ich. One drop of water with swimmers in it can add Ich. I also recommend that you not buy anything from your LFS since the Ich probably came from something he sold you which means his system has Ich in it. Anything you buy has to be quarantined for at least 4 weeks to make sure it does not have any parasites in it.
