green stuff

I have had my tank up and running for over a year... I have the purple stuff growing on the back of my tank and on my rock....but i have a green colored stuff on the front of the tank any ideas what it is????:frustrat:

Is the purple stuff hard or slimey? Is the green stuff hairy or grassy?

the purple stuff is good the green stuff is hard and just leaves dots all over the glass.

ok so i just took a better look at the green stuff and its furry

furry green stuff is likely hair algae. hard green stuff is likely green coralline algae.

The main reason for hair algae is poor water quality, namely nitrates and phosphates. Easy ways to get rid of it (...eventually...) are to use only RODI water, feed frozen food, not flakes or pellets, do not overfeed, do not overstock with fish, and don't leave your lights on for too long. Regular water changes will also help.
