Green Hair Algae

Ok but I don't wanna run carbon forever cause then it'll soak up benificial stuff I might want to add to the aquarium. So once the algae is all gone how do I keep it away? Actually since running the carbon it looks like my zoanthids that came on a piece of live rock and were thriving are now dying, is this because they must have been getting some nutrients from the water also?

No they are probably getting more light since the carbon is making the water more clear. I would just wait a week see if the zoahs open back up again. If they dont you might need to move them to a less bright part of the tank.
