Fuge Light?

The best bulbs to use for fuges are going to be those energy efficient CFL squiggly bulbs. They will be cool running and are cheap to operate.

So the one I mentioned is better? I don't think my grandfather's is going to fit on the 65 either. I could use the 30 as a sump but I wanted to do something with it and the 65 is quite scratched.

Hmm, is there some place I can buy it online? The closest home depot is 45 minuets away.

I was at lowes yesterday and asked if they had a HO CFL reflector and they said they didn't even have anything close...

+1 Hannah, you just need one of those 'Daylight' Squiggly bulbs from Lowes or Home Depot. I think I paid $5 for mine, and something like $10 for a socket on a clamp that I have clamped to my stand. No heat issues, and its been on pretty much 24x7 since August of last year - with no heat issues and plenty of chaeto / caulerpa growth

What wattage is everyone using? Also, are you all just using macro algae and live sand...or what's in your fuge's?

I just got this today: Shop Utilitech 150-Watt Equivalent Daylight 3-Way Compact Fluorescent Light Bulb at Lowes.com

To find that it only works in 3 way sockets...


This is the biggest regular CFL bulb I could find: Shop Utilitech 4-Pack 100-Watt Equivalent Daylight Compact Fluorescent Light Bulb ENERGY STAR at Lowes.com

Is that enough?

think that is the exact bulb I have on my fuge.. the chaeto loves it and is growing very very quickly..

I was running a 26 watt CFL which got blown out (we don't need to get in to the details of how :roll:). It was a 100 watt equivalent.

So I went out and got this: Shop SYLVANIA 2-Pack 100-Watt Equivalent Soft White Compact Fluorescent Light Bulb (ENERGY STAR) at Lowes.com

The bulb is quite small and there definitely seems to be a lower light output.


My questions is, should I return it and get a 26 watt?
