So my gf has a spare 5 gal invert tank, but her coral banded shrimp recently passed. We are looking for a fish to keep in the tank. There's nothing else in the tank as of now so maybe we can just get a nice solo fish. We were looking at a leaf fish. She really likes the more uncommon and strange fish.

Leaf fish are cool...but IDK,5 gallons is pretty tight ....personally i wouldn't
Not too sure what i'd put in 5 gallons....maybe a yellow goby or something

I like the leaf fish, they don't move much haha. I was looking at the tanks at my LFS and it took me awhile to realize there were two leaf fish in a macro algae tank. They are good hiders.

Maybe I'll grab some kind of invert. Again, she loves all the weird stuff haha.

That's cool im going to be doing a sim thing soon Rufio but its going to be all inverts and coral frags.

Yeah that would be good. I like having the little extra tank to keep bad inverts / extra stuff. Right now it's so empty and I was actually thinking of getting rid of it if I can't think of something to use it for.

Anyone know how to set up a QT tank? Maybe I'll just use it to keep my fish up to snuff. :D

One tank is a lot of work on its own!

yeah it is but its fun i love it, it gives me something to do every day of the week and i never get board of my tanks.

If its ich, you have to QT all your fish and leave your main tank fishless for at least 8 weeks to allow the ich to go through all its life-cycles and die out. Then you have to quarantine all new fish for 3 weeks or so to make sure it isnt carrying ich. However, most of us just live with ich in our tank. So long as the fish are in a low stress environment they usually dont show symptoms, and if they do get it they can usually fight it off - if they are in a low stress tank (ie not overstocked, correctly sized tank with good water quality) and continue to eat.

But for other parasites, like worms, fungal or bacterial infections you usually only quarantine the affected fish.
