look guys lets not do this... fights on these stupid foriums are pointles... they do nothing but raise everyones blood pressure and avert people from advice ... i know deep down that i porbably cant keep a purple tang but like ive said time and time again i need to experience things for myself. now im also not going to push its limits to the point of killing it and if its clearly unhappy then i will return him like i have said. my only point is that its not cool to go calling people names and making them feel inadequate over something as trivial as this. and thing about it any fish is coming from the ocean so thats why theres a 50/50 chances that any fish will go nuts in any sized tank. we cant replicate thte ocean and i recognize that but i have the right to try it on my mown andlearn from the mistakes that all of you have supposedly learned from.

Look,i went ahead and got a clown trigger even though tons of people(not here though)told me one morning i'll wake up to just one fish and it would be the trigg....i am rolling the dice

You do realize that purple tangs are one of the most aggressive tangs, and they get to be HUGE? Sure, you can return the tang to the store if it starts to get stressed. IF you can catch it, and IF it just doesn't up and die suddenly, like tons of fish do. You can also return it IF it starts to kill your other fish, as they are apt to do, especially in uber small tanks, but you'd be waiting until your other fish are bullied and/or dead.

Why do that to an animal? Just because you CAN doesn't mean you SHOULD. You say you have to try it for yourself. That's just dumb, and plain selfish. You DON'T have to try it for yourself NOW. You can wait until you get a bigger tank. You want it now, now, now, now, even though you KNOW it's not the right thing to do. Pure selfishness, with no regard whatsoever for the animals in your care. People in this hobby should be more responsible and you should hold yourself to a higher standard. These are animals taken from the wild. They aren't tank-bred goldfish.

Yeah,but basically people were saying they are very fast growers (which is true:shock:)and in a couple years i could have a crazy trigger on my hands......

i guess none of us really KNOW for certain how a said fish will act,but why push the envelope lilduud,like Erin mentioned ,i would like to hear from these people who have kept or told you its just fine to keep a purple tang in a 55

there are a few members on this forum and a few from sdreefs who have given me the same encouraging answer : they are very aggressive tangs but its possible to keep them happy and t hriving in a 55 with some extra work. all i want to do is try...
i would openly name these users for my own defense but i feel that would only project your [any one and everyone] negative comments onto them and i wont do that... if said members are comfotable revealing themselves then i encourage it, however i will not do it myself.
and also i know that lfs' lie like no other but my lfs in san diego is the most truthful company i know and inspite of a fair warning they think it is doable.
and yes i am the type of person to gladly admit it when im wrong so if anything youll get to smirk when i was wrong and y ou were right.

ANYWAY... one of the premises of this entire post was that i would not take advice on purple tangs.... SOOOO can we please ignore our two page long arguement on a single fish and get back to the pioint.... the tang is going in lassstttt regardless so can i at least get a reasonable order to add my other fish?

can i ask why? if they were my only other pair [or the only pair period]? im honestly asking for sound advice and not to just start another forum fight.
is it an issue of pods? thats the only reason i would imagine that i couldnt keep a pair.
