Final Setup Advice

I'm almost ready to hook it all up and run water through my system. However, I'm trying to figure out where to put the skimmer. Should I drain the water from the main tank directly into the skimmer, then return from the skimmer into the first chamber of the refugium, or should the skimmer go on the backend of the filtration process, as shown in my diagram?


The skimmer is in a seperate cabinet because it is too tall to fit under the tank. I"m just a little confused about which setup is better for filtration. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

skim the water right out of the tank that way it catches more of the organics

But, if I take out the organics, what do the little critters in the refugium have to break down/feed on? Would that disrupt the funtionality/purpose of the refugium? Thanks for replying.

the refugium is for removing phosphate and nitrates

My only comment is the height of the skimmer return. The diagram is probably out of proportion, but the level of the return must be alot lower than in your diagram. If it was setup as is, your skimmer would constantly be overflowing.
