Filtration for small tank

So what kind of filtration would a tank thats 10 galloons or under would need? Im a newbie.

Just your live rock and weekly 10% water changes would be enough for a tank that size.

I wouldn't use a filter. On my old 10 gallon I used a powerhead for flow, and just did large, regular water changes to handle any waste in the water.

How about a hang on aquaclear filter with a small bag of ceramic pipe rings and bio balls stuffed in it? What would this do?

That would trap waste and cause issues.i would just run it empty for flow.and you could use some media carbon etc if ever needed.don't use the sponge just put some live rock rubble in there

Im using a power filter with a sponge in it for my 3 gallon. So i should just put some live rock instead?

Unless you are cleaning the sponge every 3 or 4 days, yes
